Political Economy of WDM in MENA 2008 WDM and political economy perspectives are necessary ingredients for improving water governance. Key water experts speak of WDM and highlight the need for more nuanced political economy analyses to understand how to effectively push water demand management agendas forward. WaDImena conducted two innovative studies on political economy to better understand the power issues of WDM in MENA and to look into various policy environments, processes and actors in two countries -Jordan and Yemen- and strengthen policy impact.
The results of the two studies were shared in two workshops respectively in Jordan and Yemen in June and July 2008 that were attended by high level officials, researchers, NGOs, keys programs and organizations working on water sector in the two countries. ___________________________________________________ WDM Forums 01-02 In 2001-2002, IDRC held a series of four WDM policy forums, which were able to provide a platform to enrich current knowledge, exchange experiences and determine future needs on key issues in WDM. The forums helped prepare an enabling environment for the development and adoption of WDM practices in MENA. The following forums were held: Wastewater Reuse (Morocco, March 2002), Water Valuation (Lebanon, June 2002), Public-Private Partnerships (Jordan, October 2002), Decentralization/Participatory Irrigation Management (Egypt, February 2003).
