Dr Lamia El Fattal is a Program Officer for the People, Land, and Water (PLAW) and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity (SUB) program initiatives at IDRC's Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa in Cairo.

Dr El-Fattal is a public policy specialist and agronomist with nearly 12 years of experience in development issues in the Middle East and North Africa. She has a rich experience on a wide range of public policy issues in agriculture, ranging from the management of water resources to the impact of privatization and liberalization on women's access to land and water. Before joining IDRC, Dr El-Fattal worked at the Cairo office of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on a Regional Plan of Action to guide the FAO in its future work on women and agriculture. She also conducted research on women in agriculture with the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) in Aleppo, Syria. In 1991, Dr El Fattal received a McNamara Post Doctoral Fellowship from the World Bank.
