| Applied Research and Field-Level Pilot Projects within WaDImena |
WaDImena Applied Research and Field-Level Pilot Projects aim to fill gaps in knowledge and generate innovative research for the demonstration of a water demand management strategy or tool within a specific context. A total of seven priorities were classified to drive nationally implemented research with results shared regionally. These areas, which were defined by WaDImena stakeholders during country consultations, partners consultative workshop, and an analysis of lessons learned from previous WDM initiatives are: - The contribution of indigenous and traditional knowledge of means to alleviate the pressure on water resources,
- An analysis of the Impact of decentralization and community-based water management on water-use efficiency and equity,
- Incentives and benefits of using and paying for treated and untreated wastewater,
- Mechanisms for the better management of scarce groundwater resources,
- A social and economic analysis of the costs and benefits of alternative institutional arrangements,
- An analysis of economic instruments (tariffs, pricing, valuation) on physical water savings, and the
- Application of non-conventional water resources to manage the demand for freshwater.
Eight applied research and pilot projects are currently being implemented in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Yemen, with the technical and financial support of WaDImena. En 2006, le village a eu un regain d’espoir lorsque le Middle East Center for the Transfer of Appropriate Technology a décidé d’y mettre en œuvre un projet d'eaux grises financé par le CRDI.
