Abstract

The first phase of the project was funded after qualifying in a competition for projects featuring an ecosystem approach to human health in West Africa (100772). The project sought to understand the linkages between the state of the physical environment of the Mingoa river basin in Yaoundé, household sanitation and the health of children under five years old. The project involved community members, representatives of partner institutions and municipal decision-makers. The second phase will see the implementation of interventions aimed at addressing the problems identified in the first phase. The impact of these interventions will be documented and analyzed, and their replicability evaluated. The project will also seek to strengthen social organization in the 12 neighborhoods in the river basin and sensitize the population to the behavioral changes necessary to the success of the project.
