Abstract
Burkino Faso has been hit very hard by the drought in Africa and is now one of the poorest countries in the world. The government has therefore decided that self-sufficiency in agriculture is a major priority. One aspect of this extremely difficult task involves the creation of a national agricultural information system based at the National Centre for Agricultural Information in Ouagadougou. The ultimate goal is to make information and documentation available to economists, agronomists and researchers who are working in the field throughout the country. The project will provide the information centre with general and reference works, as well as equipment and material. This agricultural information system will link up with others in the region (RESADOC) and at an international level (AGRIS) in order to keep up to date with agricultural science and technology.
