Abstract
The three states bordering on the Okavango River basin - Angola, Botswana and Namibia - have formed the Permanent Okavango River Basin Commission and have produced a proposal for the development of an integrated water resource management strategy. This grant will allow the Namibian Department of Water Affairs, which has taken a leading role in the development of the strategy, to further develop the proposal along with other stakeholders, with a view to attracting donor funding. Key activities will include a case study, comprising fieldwork, of the Okavango River basin, preparation of background documentation and the organization of a workshop. The workshop will bring together officials from the three countries involved to discuss the integrated water resource management strategy and to identify and prioritize primary research issues.
