Laying the groundwork for an African Internet Exchange
Préc. Nouvelle(s) 7 de 8 Suivant
Internet exchange points (IXPs) exist in some African countries to avoid sending national Internet traffic all the way to North America or Europe just to make its journey across one country. The next logical step is to try and find a way to keep intra-continental traffic within the region.

A study carried out by the ARIP project funded by Connectivity Africa presented a range of options for regional internet exchange to a meeting of IXPs, regulators, carriers and government representatives at iWeek in Johannesburg in September. "Since this is a new opportunity opening up in Africa’s communications, it will provide the successful party (or parties) entry into a market that has huge suppressed demand with plenty of growth potential." concluded the workshop participants.
