Abstract

Africa Peace Forum (APFO), a nongovernmental organization registered in September 1999, is one of the few peace and conflict research organizations in the region. The Forum's direction and governance is spearheaded by a board comprising former diplomats, researchers, academicians and practitioners from the region and beyond. For the past three years, APFO has been implementing a major IDRC-supported research project entitled, Toward a Regional Security Architecture for the Horn of Africa - Phase II (103402). As this project draws to a close, it is timely to look to the future of APFO, which feels the need to restructure and hire a senior person to manage the organization but lacks the wherewithal to do so. This grant will provide APFO with professional resource mobilization advisory services for one year. The consultant will help APFO prepare and implement a strategic plan, develop resource mobilization skills, facilitate donor and stakeholder meetings; expand donor and partner contacts; prepare publicity materials; enhance staff proposal writing skills; consolidate its niche and strategic direction; and document the process and results of the experience.
