Abstract
The Center for the Strategic Initiatives of Women (CSIW), in collaboration with local partners, proposes to initiate a two-phase project in civil society and democracy building in Somalia. The first phase will focus on strengthening civil society capacity through leadership training, participatory action research, strategic planning and networking. The second phase will focus on democratic governance. CSIW will work to build consensus on the part of diverse sectors of civil society, including elders, women, demobilized militia, religious leaders, youth, political leaders and business people. The project will be implement initially in Boroma, Burao and Hargeisa. This grant will enable CSIW to implement the first phase of the project, that of workshops for trainers and civil society leaders.
