Abstract
Increased agricultural output depends on the use of chemicals for pest and disease control. Due to the recent removal of subsidies on agricultural inputs, these chemicals have become expensive for smallholders. Furthermore, long-term use of chemicals has resulted in environmental pollution and pest resistance. This grant will allow researchers at the National Herbarium and Botanical Gardens, Zomba, Malawi, to document and screen native plants for pesticidal properties and encourage their use in crop protection.
