Abstract

This activity will build on the outcome of a multi-country project on youth enterprise and livelihoods skills development in Malawi, Zambia and South Africa. The three country projects will form the basis of a youth livelihoods knowledge network, which will also establish links with youth policy and livelihoods projects in Uganda and Egypt. The grant will fund a workshop involving four or five participants from each of the country research teams, two or three resource people, and two or three IDRC program staff, plus follow-up activities.

The workshop participants will present and discuss three draft country proposals and finalize a set of common objectives; develop a common methodological framework for each of the objectives, including participatory livelihood assessment tools, a program assessment framework and policy analysis guidelines; and develop planning, coordination, participation and operational guidelines for each of the country research teams and for the youth livelihoods knowledge network.

Workshop follow-up activities will include writing up the workshops outcomes, drafting the final network proposal and establishing the electronic dimension of the network by developing a website and establishing Internet contact between research teams.
