2010 is a year of celebration for IDRC and many African countries: 17 francophone African countries – 9 in West Africa – are commemorating 50 years of independence while IDRC celebrates its 40^th anniversary.

 

IDRC’s Regional Office for West and Central Africa Office is linking these events by joining « La caravane de l’intégration: le Tour de l'Afrique de l'Ouest en 90 jours », a special program of  the  pan African TV channel Africable. During May, June, and July, the “first African TV road show”  is visiting 11 West African countries. Being broadcast Africa-wide in French, this show is  an exciting opportunity for IDRC to showcase results and impacts of research activities in West Africa and highlight their contribution to the development of the region.

 

In each of the countries visited, IDRC has identified one or more experts (researchers, regional counsellors, partners,...) to participate in an episode of the “24 hours in…” show. In each capital city, these experts will help the public better understand development challenges on key issues identified in collaboration with Africable.

 

IDRC hopes their contributions will show how national and regional research outputs and innovations can positively influence policymakers and benefit West Afrrican communities.
