| CD-ROM of Asian Information on Health and the Environment |
Eight institutions that are owners of major Asian databases and information resources relating to health and the environment have agreed to form a Consortium to produce the region's earliest CD-ROM in a developmental area that is considered critical in the Agenda 21 program. This collaboration will add value to the Centre's as well as others' past and continuing investment in the support of these information centres, as it will bring about further dissemination, greater usage, and better economic management of these information resources. This strategy is particularly cogent to the Centre at this time when its South East and East Asian Regional Office is making inroads into countries that have suffered the loss of information resources because of war, and are in dire need of access to external information in every field of development. At the heart of this project is the issue of marketability of the CD-ROM product. Sustainability of the project is aimed at the sixth year, when annual recurrent costs should be recovered.
