SME Support Organisations Network - Asia

Technonet Asia, a cooperative network of development support institutions, aims to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in its member countries through information, technology transfer and human resources development. Technonet endeavours to meet the challenges that are constantly evolving in the free market environment by means of several action-oriented support programs, including techno-economic research, special skills-upgrading programs and institutional capacity building. With the increased application of information technology in business management, it is imperative that SME support institutions take advantage of electronic networking to improve their service delivery capacity. This project will establish an electronic network between Technonet Asia member organizations and develop new information services based on the Internet. The specific objectives are to connect each of the participating institutions to the Internet and develop their capacity to network, thus providing improved information services based on the needs of SMEs. The project will also prepare SMEs for cyber business promotion and help them gain access to international markets through the Internet. A World Wide Website will be set up to help SMEs and their support organisations establish global linkages.
