| Electronic Networking for Rural Asia Pacific Projects |
Electronic Networking for Rural Asia Pacific Projects (ENRAP) aims to bring the Internet to rural development projects financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in the poorest parts of Asia and the Pacific. IFAD is the United Nations agency charged with alleviating poverty in rural communities. IFAD is funding ENRAP as a three year technical assistance grant with a six-month preparatory phase. The initial budget is about US $750 000. This grant will provide additional financial support to strengthen the research component of ENRAP. Specifically, the funding will be used to develop and introduce participatory methods in project implementation and to provide comprehensive training to stakeholders in IFAD projects. Initially, ENRAP will help selected projects acquire Internet connectivity and use in eight countries: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. A larger number of projects in three countries, i.e. China, Nepal and the Philippines, will receive intensive assistance for developing national, regional and international networking at the project level.
