PAN Internet Collaboratory for Research, Experimentation and Training

The objective of this IDRC- administered project is to respond to requests from Asian governments, civil society, small enterprises and marginal communities for support to use Internet- based technologies to add value to their economic, social and environmental development activities. The grant will allow the PAN (Pan Asia Networking) " Mother" website to provide advice, consultation, training and opportunities to experiment with emergent Internet- based technologies in areas of key PAN research focus. These include electronic commerce, distance education, and community knowledge systems. The main thrust of the "Collaboratory" is to facilitate innovation among PAN partners in the use of Internet- based technologies; to add value to their research and development activities; and to improve networking and shared learning among PAN partners. At the same time, the Collaboratory will devolve ownership and management to a Third World institution in Asia.
