| PanAsia R&D Grants Program : Evaluation |
Since October 1997, IDRC's Pan Asia Networking program initiative has supported a pilot (040400/ 97-8004) and an implementation phase (003820/ 98-0006) of the Pan Asia R&D Grants program. The objective of the program is to provide information and communication technology (ICT) personnel in Asia based organizations with opportunities to conduct research into original and innovative networking solutions for specific development problems in Asia. It does so by awarding grants of up to CA $15 000 for pre-project research or small studies of up to one year, and grants of up to CA $75 000 for small projects of up to 2 years. To date, the committee has approved 26 national level grants, as well as a number of grants to regional bodies. Of these, one-third have been completed and two-thirds are on-going. This research support project will fund a "soft systems" study and a tracer study of completed and on-going projects to determine whether the program should be continued and, if so, in what form.
