More than  CA $65 million in funding for a new research program to help the poorest adapt to climate change
A multimillion dollar research program that will help the poorest in Africa cope with the increasing impact of climate change was launched 17 May 2006 by the UK’s Department for International Development and Canada's International Development Research Centre.

IDRC Funds Researchers' Participation at 2006 International Association for the Study of Common Property (IASCP) Conference

India's Missing Daughters

A new study estimates that 10 million girls have gone “missing” from India’s population since 1985 because of the practice of selectively aborting female fetuses. Dr Prabhat Jha says the new calculation shows the need for a range of social policies to reverse a potentially disastrous future imbalance in the male/female ratio of India’s population.

Feeding the Sustainable City

Thanks to pioneering research initially led by IDRC, many Southern cities are now re-examining their attitude to urban agriculture. The challenge they face is how to control agricultural activity so that it can benefit the urban farmers and the rest of the city’s population.

Tobacco and Taxes: A Winning Strategy

IDRC, with funds from Health Canada, supported an economic study that helped the Jamaican government rebut the tobacco industry’s arguments against higher taxes on cigarettes, in the process breathing new life into the country’s tobacco control strategy.
