| Robert Greenhill Appointed to High-level UN Panel |

News 97 of 153
Robert Greenhill, IDRC Governor and President of the Canadian International Development Agency, has been appointed as a member of a high-level panel that will study UN system-wide coherence in the areas of development, humanitarian assistance, and the environment. The panel will explore ways to maximize resources for UN relief, environmental, and development activities worldwide while minimizing administrative costs. Its recommendations will enable the UN to increase its contribution to achieve internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals. The panel was created in response to the 2005 World Summit Outcome Document that called for greater coordination across various UN development agencies, funds, and programs. Panel members include prominent figures from the political and development domain, including former Chilean President Ricardo Lagos Escobar, and Prime Ministers Luisa Dias Diogo from Mozambique, Jens Stoltenberg from Norway, and Shaukat Aziz from Pakistan. The panel's final recommendations will be submitted to the UN Secretary-General in the summer of 2006 and to the General Assembly in the fall.
