Let us use these ideas to ensure that our reconstruction and development go ahead in harmony.
Nelson Mandela

Backed by South Africa's democratic movement, and with the support of IDRC, the International Mission on Environmental Policy focuses on the critical role that environmental sustainability must play in nation buildingand economic development. It proposes policy directions that move away from the unbridled squandering of resources. It advocates sound use of the environment and better measures for environmental protection.

With an opening foreword by Nelson Mandela, this volume presents the Mission's final report. Its message is clear: a sound environmental policy is key to the building of a new South Africa.
