Capacity Building in Resource Mobilization (CBRM)

Financial sustainability is a cornerstone of any healthy organization, including those engaged in research for development. Yet, a number of factors have made it difficult for many of IDRC’s research partners to become financially viable and sustainable. This project has been designed, in 2003, for managers and research teams to improve their capacity to define resource needs, identify and test ways to diversify and increase financial resources to promote the advancement of their organization and its viability over time.

The site of this initiative is divided in 3 sections:
  • The project, with its objectives and results. Furthermore, research partners share through cases studies how resource mobilization, strategically planned, has transformed their organization, allowing them to better achieve the institution's mission and diversify their sources of funding.
  • A section dedicated to pedagogical resources and references to be better informed and equipped to use tools developed in the course of the project and,
  • Finally our coordinates to let us know your comments, share your resources and request more information.

"Financial autonomy is a process. It requires internal capacity, institutional commitment to resource mobilization…and time to train, implement and follow-up…however, such momentum must be harnessed appropriately going forward  (ERNWACA Technical Report, April 2006)
