Abstract

The IDRC-supported project, "95-0008 (002382) Joint Israeli-Palestinian Management of Mountain Aquifer - Phase II," resulted in a manuscript entitled, "Management of Shared Groundwater Resources: The Israeli-Palestinian Case with an International Perspective." The book presents a general framework for the joint management of shared aquifers, with specific reference to the Mountain Aquifer. It will be the first book to explicitly address the issue of cross-border groundwater management and the first to focus on groundwater resources in the Israeli-Palestinian context, groundwater being the most difficult and central question facing water negotiators in the Middle East today. The book draws on international experience in groundwater management and touches on some of the more technical aspects of joint management. This grant will cover IDRC's portion of the cost of a joint publication of the manuscript by IDRC and Kluwer Academic Publishers.
