Abstract
In Swaziland, as in many developing countries, radio is the most effective mass communication tool because it quickly reaches the target groups, is economical, and is accessible even in the rural areas. However, there are some constraints to be overcome before radio can be used effectively to promote rural development. One of the biggest problems is a lack of skilled personnel in the production and evaluation of development-science and technology programs aimed at rural audiences. This project provides for the training of communicators in the skills necessary for disseminating accurate and relevant information to rural listeners. Communicators will receive training in the use of listenership surveys and basic social science research methods to improve the content of programs. Also extension officers will receive training in methods of evaluating the impact of development radio programs in the rural areas.
