Abstract

Burkina-Faso's current water management policy features a number of players with divergent interests in the context of government disengagement. In fact, the absence of communication between citizens and stakeholders results in a general lack of concern for the water needs of populations in national policymaking. For the last five years, the Centre d'études, de documentation, de recherches économiques et sociales (CEDRES) of the University of Ouagadougou has worked toward a resolution of water conflicts. This project will help CEDRE encourage communities to put in place a permanent strategy for managing their water resources. The research will be undertaken in partnership with village management committees, and decentralized autonomous structures responsible for the coordination of village development activities. The research aims to ensure that water policies take into account the needs of communities and that communities become full partners in the management of their water resources.
