Abstract
The violent conflict in Angola ended in early 2002, but the country still faces major challenges to the achievement of sustainable peace. One of the key challenges has been uneven implementation of post-conflict processes. Development Workshop (DW) recognizes the importance of monitoring post-conflict processes, particularly in areas distant from the capital where the problems are greatest and the capacity to solve them weakest. This grant will allow Development Workshop to create a database of information on the province of Zaire, which is experiencing an influx of returning refugees in the context of serious lack of information and slow reconstruction of services and infrastructure. The database will indicate potential tensions, and aid and development inequalities. The database will be useful to actors from both the government and nongovernmental sector, and serve as a model for the establishment of databases for other provinces.
