Abstract
After a decade of liberation struggle and two decades of civil war, many of the fundamental threads of the social fabric have been destroyed in Angola. The coping capacity of local communities during the war could serve as embryonic models on which to build further. Hence this research project will analyze these coping strategies with the aim of assessing this potential in further development and rehabilitation activities and programs. This will help in the development of policy guidelines for supporting grassroots organizations for agencies working with the communities. Central to this project will be the strengthening of the research capacity within the Angolan NGO community.
