International Development Research Centre's (IDRC) Gender Unit is organizing a special series of events to commemorate International Women's Day, both in IDRC's regional offices and at its headquarters in Ottawa during the month of March 2005.

In the case of IDRC's Regional Office for West and Central Africa, Ms Fatou Sow, a sociologist and researcher with IFAN at Cheikh Anta Diop University and with CNRS in Paris, was the main speaker of a lunchtime discussion, organized on Thursday, March 3, on how women are addressing their political responsibilities by looking at women's involvement in the decision-making process.

Over 80 participants attended the event, including male and female policymakers, researchers and activists who are promoting women's emancipation – especially on the economic front – NGO representatives, and journalists.

Please find below the various reports published in the Senegalese media at this occasion (in French), as well as a presentation of Ms Sow’s contribution.
