In the context of the next G8 Summit at Kananaskis,

Maureen O’Neil, President of
the International Development Research Centre (IDRC),

invites you to a public presentation on the education needs of Africa

(in collaboration with the Group of African Ambassadors)

Special presentation by: Ms. Michèle Gendreau-Massaloux,
President of the
“Agence universitaire de la Francophonie ”

« According to the Heads of States and Governments, the next G8 Summit (in Kananaskis) is making education a priority because the enhancement of educational policies is a key condition to development. » –Michèle Gendreau-Massaloux

Ms. Gendreau-Massaloux will talk about education needs in Africa in the context of the work being carried out by the G8 in preparation for its June 2002 Summit in Kananaskis. Notable priorities of the G8 include achieving primary education for all by 2015 and eliminating gender inequities by 2005.

A few words on the implication of Michèle Gendreau-Massaloux in Africa

Africa is one of Ms. Gendreau-Massaloux’s priorities. The Plan Afrique (Africa plan), which was developed during the first months of her mandate is a sign that the AUF effectively recognizes Africa’s educational needs. “I would like this plan for Africa to be an act of faith in the universities,” says
Ms. Gendreau-Massaloux, “a way of resisting war, a way also of building a future for the youth – young men and women – of the nation-states that make up Africa.” The AUF President has led a number of missions to African political and university leaders and has committed herself to signing an agreement with representatives of the Université virtuelle africaine (Virtual University of Africa), which is financed by the World Bank.

Everyone interested must RSVP. To reserve your seat, contact Ms. Line Caouette at (613) 236-6163, ext. 2108
