When : 2002-04-03 10:30 12:00 Where : Boardroom, 14th Floor - IDRC, 250 Albert Street, Ottawa
A public panel presentation on extreme experiences of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Xtreme Mistake When everything pointed to the successful use of ICTs by the Ashaninka indigenous community in Peru, things turned sour. External evaluator Mauricio Beltran will tell us what happened, and what we can learn from this. Xtreme Success When we did not expect much from the political agenda to bring Internet to street kids, we have been positively surprised to see the outstanding success of this project with street kids in Colombia and Ecuador. Project advisor Maria Cristina Ocampo comes to tell us how they did it. Xtreme Surprise While everybody talks about the benefits of e-government, nobody really knows what this means. Research in Central America shows the need to redefine e-governance, e-government, and e-democracy, and finds some intriguing surprises in what is being done in the region. Young Canadian Researcher Katherine Reilly tells us what she has been finding. The session will be in Spanish with English interpretation. Refreshments will be available at 10:00. Everyone interested in these issues is welcome to attend.
