By definition, research using ecohealth promotes a holistic view of human health and environmental sustainability. The ecosystem is viewed as a means to improved human health instead of as a subject of study itself. Therefore, opportunities are sought to implement the approach where it appears most advantageous, irrespective of geographical location or the nature of the eco-region being considered. The Ecosystems and Human Health Program (Ecohealth) promotes research that brings multiple points of view to the table. By bringing a novel transdisciplinary approach to old and new problems, Ecohealth aims to elucidate the links between human health and ecosystems' health so as to protect and improve both. Ecohealth projects are distributed regionally and according to specific entry points defined by Program objectives. Certain projects cut across several thematic entry points. If you do not know the geographic location of a project, the best way to find project information is to search the IDRIS+ database. If you are looking for project reports, publications or other outputs, you can search the IDRC Digital Library. It is easiest to search by project number, which you will need to find in IDRIS+ or on this site.
- Communities of Practice in Ecohealth
With a growing capacity in ecohealth methodologies, researchers and practitioners expressed a need for a venue for collaboration. The creation of a CoP focusing on the ecohealth approach (CoPEH) allows individuals to share their experiences and knowledge, avoid duplication, and further develop their skills and knowledge.
