Budget Guidelines

These awards will cover expenses related to your field research during the period of tenure.  As a guide in preparing your budget, the following line items may be considered.  This list is not necessarily all-inclusive, but should alert you to key budget items.  Specific budget items will vary depending on the nature of the research being undertaken. 

LIVING EXPENSES

     Living Costs Overseas*

  • housing

  • food/household supplies

     Medical/Health Insurance

RESEARCH EXPENSES 

     Travel / Transportation

  • one return economy class airfare (Canada/country), by the most direct route, in which research will take place

  • travel within country of research

  • visa costs

     Research

  • supplies/materials/equipment

  • translation/interpretation (if necessary)

  • cost of shipping equipment (if necessary)

     Communication

  • telephone, FAX, telex (maximum of $200/month for both internal and external communication)

  • courier (maximum of 1 package/month @ $50/package)

FUNDING FROM OTHER SOURCES

Please specify (amount and source) of any other income you expect during the period of award tenure. Include income from any other awards.  

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION FROM RESEARCHER (YOURSELF)

NOTE:     Funds will not be provided for language training, tuition or supervisor's travel.

Original receipts for the purchase of all air tickets are required together with the original used air tickets.  Receipts for other expenses need not be submitted.  However, should IDRC require to verify these receipts, they must be made available.
 

* Some expenses related to research in Canada will be covered for the Canadian Window on International Development Award.
