"Technology and Inclusive finance" is the theme of the seminar that FGV-SP ‘s GVcemf, Center of Studies on Microfinance and the Canadian business school HEC Montreal will be hosting on 15th October, from 8:30 to 17:00 hours in Sao Paulo. The seminar is aimed at professionals in the financial sector, microfinance institutions, technology companies, researchers and the general public. The seminar, of free participation, is sponsored by the Canadian International Development Research Centre – IDRC and the French NGO Planet Finance.

The workshop represents an excellent opportunity to update on the use of technological channels to support the expansion of access to financial services for low-income population. The seminar will be attended by bank, government and microfinance sector representatives to debate the opportunities and challenges of correspondents, mobiles and other technological channels for inclusive finances.

The international guest of the event, the businessman Jorge Kleinberg Druker, is the General Director of Te Creemos, microfinance institution in Mexico. With an active portfolio of 25 thousand customers Te Creemos was founded just four years ago and has grown thanks to an innovative partnership with a large network of pharmacies based in the state of Chiapas, the poorest in the country. The history and lessons of this successful experience- that in its technological infrastructure has similarities with the Brazilian model of correspondents- will be be reported for the first time in Brazil.

In addition, there will be a panel with key representatives of microfinance in Brazil, such as Jerônimo Ramos, superintendent of Real Microcrédito, Claudia Cisneiros, Executive Director of OSCIP Ceape-Maranhão and Alexander Darzé of Planet Finance. The institutional and regulatory aspects will be discussed in the opening panel, with the participation of Frederico Queiroz, the Board of Correspondents of Febraban and Edson Feltrin, from the Department of Financial System Organization of the Brazilian Central Bank.
