The World Economic Forum has recognized IDRC partner Sanjeev Khagram as a 2009 Young Global Leader (YGL).

Every year, between 200 and 300 distinguished leaders 40 years of age or younger are invited to join the World Forum of Young Global Leaders. The 2009 honourees will become part of the broader Forum of Young Global Leaders that currently comprises 480 outstanding individuals. The YGLs convene at biannual summits, as well as events and meetings throughout the year, and collaborate on initiatives to tackle some of the key challenges of our generation.

This year, 230 nominees representing government, media, business, academia, and civil society were chosen from 71 countries .

Drawn from a pool of nearly 5 000 candidates, Khagram was chosen “in recognition of [his] professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through inspiring leadership.”

Khagram leads the IDRC-supported Global Action Network Impacts Community of Practice project, which is examining the emerging innovation and impact of such networks on civil society.

He is currently a Wyss Scholar at the Harvard Business School, Ratan Tata Chair at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and Lead Steward of iScale. His previous positions include senior policy advisor at the World Commission on Dams, dean of the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre, and most recently faculty director of the Lindenberg Center for Humanitarian Action, International Development and Global Citizenship at the University of Washington.
