PCD's Democratization and Peacebuilding Competition is now completed. Here are the 4 finalists (in no particular order): -FLACSO-Mexico: "Where networks meet hierarchies: The interface between civil society and government in highly conflictive towns" -Lebanese American University: "Empowering citizens: Elections, Civil Society and Peace Building" - Center for Land and Community Development Studies at Penn State University: "Reconciling Africa’s Fragmented Institutions of Governance: A New Approach to Institution Building" -Social Scientists's Association: "State Reform from Below: Peace Building, Development and Political Reforms in Sri Lanka". PCD had sent out a call for concept notes in the Fall of 2007 and received 63 applications on the four identified themes: (1) The Role of Local Civil Society Groups (2) Institutional Design (or Re-Design) a) Citizen participation at local and/or regional level b) Linkages between democratic institutions and traditional forms of authority c) Support for political parties (3) Democratization and Social and Economic Equity (4) The Role of Foreign Donors in Promoting Democratization Of these 63 applicants, 17 were shortlisted. PCD received 16 full proposals which were submitted to a review panel composed of IDRC staff and external experts. Congratulations to the four finalists!
