In fulfilling Pan Asia Networking's objectives, the program supports applied ICT research and development in a number of focus areas. PAN emphasizes applied research related to community uses of ICTs, - particularly those practices that lead to more equitable access, and policies to strengthen investment in ICT infrastructure. After initiating research to support early Internet Service Providers in several lesser-developed countries nearly 10 years ago, PAN continues to strengthen and extend access to ICT applications through research on, among other areas, rural access, ehealth, distance education technologies, and local language computing. PAN encourages and facilitates participation in the information economy by promoting knowledge networking and digital inclusion. The program also aims to influence policy by helping its partners contribute their research results to policy-making processes.
