The IDRC Logo

History

The four boxes of the IDRC logo represent the four original programs of the Centre: agriculture, food, and nutrition sciences; information sciences; population and health sciences; and social sciences and human resources. The three-dimensional appearance of these boxes is meant to portray how the work of IDRC is to reach out to the peoples of the developing world, to help them find their own solutions to their own problems. Since its founding in October 1970, the program structure of IDRC has changed many times. The logo, however, has remained essentially the same, undergoing its only significant redesigns in late 1989 and early 2000.

Guidelines on usage and retrieval

Various formats and sizes of the IDRC logo are available. Contact info@idrc.ca for more information.

IDRC Document Cover

The IDRC "document cover" is a standard stationery item available to all Centre staff who wish to give their reports a uniform, corporate look. They can be used for many types of documents aimed at both internal and external audiences. The covers are suitable for preliminary reports, proceedings, reports to donor agencies and partner organizations, or any other document with a limited distribution but sufficient value to merit a durable and attractive format.

The conception, design, printing, binding, and distribution of these documents is not handled by IDRC Books. As such, "internal IDRC documents" are "program" documents, only available from the author(s) or the contact person listed on the title page. IDRC Books will not fulfil orders for these documents, and they will not be listed in the IDRC publications catalogue.

All such documents must systematically be deposited with the IDRC Library. They are an important record of the Centre's work and should be available for consultation by researchers worldwide through the Centre's library service.

Please send the IDRC Library one hard copy and one electronic copy of each report.

The covers are a standard IDRC stationery item. They are available from Adminstrative Services by submitting a Stocked Item Requisition to the receiving/stores area. Each set consists of a front and back cover. They are available in both 8½ x 11" and A4 sizes.

8½ x 11": catalogue number, 06-053; unit of issue, set (front and back covers)

A4: catalogue number, 06-054; unit of issue, set (front and back covers)

The title page of the report must be formatted so that the title and author's (or editor's) name is visible through the die-cut window. To do this, please use the following specifications:

Area in die-cut window:

  • Left margin, 2"; right margin, 3.75"
  • Advance first line to 2.75" and centre main title; font, 20 pt Times bold
  • Advance to 4" and centre subtitle; font, 14 pt Univers bold
  • Advance to 6" and centre author's name; font, 20 pt Times bold
Other information on the title page should appear below the die-cut window. This information must include details on how and where to obtain additional copies of the report, as well as a date of release. Suggested format is as follows:

Area below die-cut window:

  • Left margin, 2"; right margin, 2"
  • Statement: "For additional copies or futher information about this document, please contact the author at the following address:"; set flush left, 10 pt Times
  • Address: set flush left in caps and small caps, 10 pt Times
  • Date: place at bottom of page, flush left, in 14 pt Times bold
These documents can be stapled, bound with Cerlox, or spiral bound. For guidance and advice on printing and binding, please contact Administrative Services.

Distribution of the report is your responsibility. For advice or assistance in compiling a mailing list, send an email to IDRC Communications. For information on shipping procedures, contact the IDRC mail room.

If you have any further questions or require more information or clarification about these reports, send an email to the IDRC Publisher.
