Right: Grand entrance to the Royal Palace, Phnom Penh On May 6th 1997 the first "Ping" command - a small packet of data used to verify a network connection - was sent from a computer in Cambodia to another in Singapore. Its acknowledgment heralded the arrival of Cambodia's first full Internet service, CamNet.
